Prescribed Broadcast Burning Scheduled at U.S. Forest Service

The San Diego Air Pollution Control District has notified the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District of a scheduled prescribed broadcast burn at the Laguna Mountains on Wednesday, May 24^th, 2023. The United States Forest Service will actively manage the prescribed burn of approximately 137 acres, and are scheduled to conclude the same day, May 24^th, 2023.

Prescribed burns take place after careful planning and under controlled conditions. Controlling where the smoke will go is an important part of every prescribed burn. Prescribed burns serve as an effective tool to reduce the risk of wildfire. Broadcast burns are conducted when meteorological conditions are highly favorable, and create minimal impact to population centers.
